QUARRY HOTEL
HOTEL, CONCEPT, TBC
Our client had a passion for the mechanical process of mining stone and family ties to a marble quarry in Italy, so we felt this was a perfect starting point for the concept. The space would be used as a canvas to pay homage to the journey of marble. After researching the process and equipment required for marble becoming a final polished slab, we felt that each stage contributed to the allure and appreciation of this ancient material.
We had the opportunity to use prime grades of marble, but also access to offcuts. These offcuts - beautiful in their own way - were used to create feature elements and give a nod to the raw and delicate nature of marble. A water filled quarry became the inspiration for the ceiling feature, highlighting the beginning of the mining process. The bespoke fixtures incorporate details inspired by the relationship of machine and marble throughout the mining and cutting processes.
